Computer Tunes Meme
I'll have to say more about how wonderful it was to work on Four Electric Ghosts in the Atelier when I catch up on my sleep. In the meantime, I went over to Mimi Nguyen's site today and saw this list. Thought I'd share my own computer tunes meme (no free computer software ads here). The most interesting thing for me is how much gets left out that clearly defines my listening habits. Most notable absences:

1. anything by Brian Blade, especially "Reconciliation" & "Steadfast" (about whom I've had a blog entry half drafted for a month or so)
2. tracks from an unreleased live show by Moe Raw, especially "Magnolia Trees" a song I call "California", and "Anti-gravity Blues"
3. tracks from Rahsaan Salandy's unreleased album, especially "Sweet Black Moses"
4. Pamela Z's "Regular Verbs"
5. Cassandra Wilson (in a big way)
6. Many things that were on my computer before my harddrive died (Randy Weston, Alice Coltrane, and Abbey Lincoln come to mind)

A cool meme. It's so rare to see someone list mp3s of poetry (and not primarily spoken word poetry) alongside music files. Rare, and refreshing.
hey angry redd,
feelin ur list. i hav really been into meshell hardcore-- bitter is my shit, but i also love the dub groove of comfort woman. interesting was jus listening to de la's stakes is high. dont really know 3 feet high and rising-- i need to. also listening to modern hip hop quartet. and HARDCORE ON A DONNY HATHAWAY TRIP. "A Song For You" and especially "Someday We'll All Be Free" are my theme songs right now. trying to learn to sing the latter. WHERE did u get Yusef's album-- i want it.
love,
cac
Hey guys!
John -- Yes, it did strike me that I had all these poems mixed in with songs. I hadn't expected that, even though I know they are there. I suppose it's because other people's lists have been mostly music and I'd thought my list would look like theirs.
sandpapa (looks like Sand Papa, rather than sandpaper) -- you know, I still haven't heard Bitter. Strangely, I don't have MHQ stuff on my computer anymore, either. hmm. I'm going to have to correct that. I'm going to have to check for it. I bought a Yusef album years ago at Millenium Music in Durham, but what's in my library on my computer is from a Rattapallax podcast which you can find here:

You really need to hear 3 Feet High and Rising to understand where I'm coming from. You won't understand my love for De La without that album.
