The Kitchen Friday, June 1 8pm & Saturday, June 2 8pm
Tickets $10, Curated by Rashida Bumbray

Brooklyn-based, free-bop jazz drummer and composer Pheeroan akLaff’s performances conjoin melodic patterns, rhythmic patterns, counterpoint, chordal voicings, and solo and group improvisation with the intent to arrive at a liberating place—be it harmonious or cacophonous. akLaff presents new compositions exploring international grooves and sensibilities for a quintet composed of himself, bassist Francis Mbappé, pianist Michael Cain, vocalists Kamillah akLaff and Amon Bey.

The evenings open with a performance by LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs, a writer, vocalist, and Harlem denizen whose work rigorously explores sound through a myriad of verse, language, and electronic vocal processing. This work-in-progress, Excerpts from Fraud & Coda, features Diggs (vocals, text, electronics, visuals), Daniel Marcellus Givens, and Guillermo E. Brown, (electronics and vocals).
