Brutal Imagination
Ok. I promise I'll say more about Brutal Imagination later. But for now, just go see it! It is now running at the Vineyard Theatre (http://www.vineyardtheatre.org). The play has two characters: Susan Smith and the imaginary black man she creates to explain her children's disappearance. The imaginary black man is played by Joe Morton. Susan Smith is played by Sally Murphy. I just saw the play this weekend and it, like the book, is amazing. I encourage anyone in the New York area to go see the play. Please pass the word. Performances begin Dec 19th thru Jan 27th (24th, 25th and New Year we're off!!) From the team that created the Pulitzer Prize finalist Running Man, whose earlier work You Don't Miss The Water premiered at the Vineyard, comes a passionate and devastating new drama with music. Based on Cornelius Eady's stunning poetry, Brutal Imagination is a powerful new theatrical piece inspired by the tragic events of the Susan Smith case. What happens when the imaginary African American man she invented to cover up the murder of her children comes to life to tell his side of the story? | |
