Did I tell you we met Ornette Coleman?

Of course not. I haven't been blogging at all. But I've been living, hearing music, making art, teaching, seeing family, meditating on poetry.

And we did meet Ornette Coleman. We were going towards the summer state entrance of Central Park for DJ Spooky day. Somehow we missed Dewey Redman, but right outside , before we got to the gate, we walked past a man in a heavy suit. No sweat at all. He nodded to us and walked by. When we realized who it was, we went back to talk to him. He turned around, asked us if we made music, and when we said "yes", he blessed us, just as if we were back in Nigeria.

We went home and surfed for him all night.

I am so lucky to be an artist. I am so grateful for so many others.
